Meet Finn Frost: A Snowman with Heart
The magic of winter is here, and it’s brought along a delightful new friend—Finn Frost! Finn isn’t just any snowman; he’s a story woven with thread, fabric, and a sprinkle of holiday cheer. I’m so excited to introduce this special snowman pattern, designed to bring a touch of whimsy and heartwarming sentiment to your holiday season.

The Story of Finn Frost Snowman
When I set out to create this pattern, I wanted Finn to feel like more than just a project—he’s the perfect winter character. Finn Frost is the snowman we all imagine coming to life on a frosty winter’s day, complete with his magical scarf, a beautifully embroidered snowflake on his tummy, and his sweetest detail: a heart tucked safely inside his chest.
But Finn has another secret. On his behind, you’ll find a tiny pocket! This pocket can hold an additional heart or a little note, making him even more meaningful. Imagine gifting Finn with a heartfelt message tucked away on his snowman behind, ready to be discovered by someone special.
Crafting Finn Frost
Finn Frost Snowman is a pattern that combines traditional sewing techniques with a touch of hand embroidery. Here’s what makes him special:
- Embroidered Snowflake: Finn’s belly features an intricate snowflake design, perfect for showcasing your hand-stitching skills. For mine, I used Aurifil 12wt wool thread in a festive red—soft, textural, and perfect for the season.
- Hidden Heart (x2!): One heart is sewn and tucked inside Finn before he’s fully assembled, while another can be placed in his back pocket, ready to hold a note or a little token of love.
- The Magical Scarf: Finn is never without his snowman scarf, adding a cozy, personal touch that’s easy to customize with your favorite fabric scraps.
Materials You'll Need
- Fabric: Finn can be made from linen, cotton, or even soft wool for a cozy, wintry vibe. Scraps are perfect for this project or consider piecing fabric together to make a patchwork Finn Frost Snowman!
- Cotton Batting: I used batting instead of fusible web to add body to Finn’s snowflake embroidery. I adhered it to the body fabric with a touch of temporary basting spray.
- Stuffing: Finn is filled with Ultra Plush Poly-Fil, making him wonderfully huggable. You can add more or less to give him the perfect snuggle factor or big snowman tummy.
- Thread: For the snowflake embroidery, I recommend Aurifil 12wt wool for its richness and texture. I doubled up, using two strands at a time, but you could also consider Aurifil Floss, which a little thicker. If you checkout the version with the black snowflake, you'll see what floss looks like.
- Notions: A Size 24 chenille needle and a bit of patience bring Finn to life. Chenille needles have a sharp point and larger, elongated eye that is the same width as the needle. This is perfect for thicker thread!
What Makes Finn Special?
Finn Frost Snowman is more than a decoration; he’s a keepsake. Whether you’re stitching him for yourself, gifting him to a loved one, or creating a whole family of snowmen, he’ll bring joy wherever he goes. His timeless charm, paired with his sweet little pocket and hidden heart, makes him a wonderful project for quilters, sewists, and anyone who loves crafting holiday magic.
It's also such fun to go searching for fallen branches out in nature to use for his arms!
Make Finn Frost Your Own
I designed this snowman pattern with flexibility in mind.
- Eyes: Add two little buttons, pins, or embroider eyes.
- Smile: Stitch his smile or nose.
- Rosy Cheeks: Use blush, lipstick, or paint to give him wintery cheeks.
- Snowflake: Try stitching his snowflake in a color that matches your holiday or winter decor.
- Pocket: Customize his pocket with a little embroidery or add a small trinket or note for an extra surprise.
- Hat: You could even knit or sew a little hat!
No matter how you personalize him, Finn Frost Snowman is sure to become a cherished part of your winter traditions.
